- born in marseille, growing up with a single mother until the age of 9
- when her mother was hospitalized for several bad psychotic episodes
- it's so bad that she has been kept in a psych ward continuously until present time
- catherine was sent to live with her aunt who was married to a man in denmark
- was enrolled at the royal danish ballet school a year later to socialize her
- came to love ballet and stuck to it
- now, at 23, she is a soloist with the company
- however, her mother is getting gradually worse
- so catherine decides to move back to france to be closer to her
- gets a job at the paris opera ballet as a coryphée
- there are whispers of someone living in the basements of the palais garnier
- sounds like mere ghost stories to her
- until a mysterious woman shows up and begins giving her ballet lessons for free
- as long as she wears a blindfold so she can't see her
- around the same time, she begins feeling stalked and watched when she moves around the premises
- and the management begins aggressively promoting her
- despite her rank and her outsider status at the ballet
- she begins fearing she might be losing her mind, too
